Implementation of R-FERM as a Predictive Maintenance Solution for Earthing Systems in Data Center
To improve operational reliability and eliminate hidden earthing failures, a data center in Assam implemented Manav’s R-FERM (Remote Fault-Time Earth Resistance Monitor). The objective was to understand real-time earthing behaviour, especially during electrical disturbances and environmental fluctuations. Continuous monitoring allowed the facility to validate the effectiveness of its grounding system, reduce safety risks, and ensure uninterrupted, fault-resilient operations.
Problem Statement
- The client operated in a region with rocky terrain and fluctuating soil resistivity, which made earthing performance unpredictable.
- Periodic manual tests could not capture dynamic resistance changes during seasonal extremes or fault conditions.
- The absence of real-time data created risks such as poor fault dissipation, unsafe touch potentials, non-compliance, and unexpected outages.
